70% of Snapchat Users Are Women
Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel said on Wednesday that 70% of the photo-sharing app's users are female, according to a new report. Spiegel shared the breakdown, along with a few other metrics, at a closed-door conference hosted by Goldman Sachs in Las Vegas.
A Snapchat spokeperson said on Tuesday that its users send 400 million "snaps" — that is, pictures or videos — each day; that number doubled the 200 million snaps sent back in June. For comparison, Facebook users share approximately 350 million photos per day, but this number doesn't include Instagram shares or video uploads.
In Vegas, Spiegel said Snapchat is looking to expand its team, and aims to offer the service in new languages, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Reports surfaced last week that Facebook offered $3 billion to acquire Snapchat, which Spiegel refused.
Obviously, the company feels it will find a way to make money on its own since $3 billion dollars isn’t exactly a small sum of money. SnapChat must have a secret plan to start raking in significant amounts of money.
SnapChat is reportedly experimenting with some sort of in-app purchasing system to monetize the social network. A timeline for the integration of a micro-transaction feature hasn’t yet been released. It’s also possible that SnapChat could take the traditional advertising route and just run ads under images.
